PERSONAL COMMENTS:-
· 1. ABILITY TO THINK STRATEGICALLY
I started my own Martial Arts business in 1990. My ability to think clearly has been one of the main driving factors behind the success of our Martial Art. Effective planning and Management have ensured that our business objectives were realised and our students needs have been met. Over the past thirty years, I have studied and gained a wealth of experience in the Martial Arts industry. Each course we deliver has individual requirements, therefore an established teaching program can not be utilised. As student requirements vary, each course is tailored to the student’s individual needs. I have negotiated external training to meet the student’s needs to ensure a systematic approach with methodical training delivery.
· 2. ABILITY TO ACHIEVE RESULTS
I have developed and co-ordinated result driven organisation goals for Kenseikan Karate Australia and it’s members. This entailed planning and scheduling courses, tournaments, venue selection and ensuring that all training met the required educational standards. When developing solutions for issues or problems, I take into account all information available and analyse all elements to ensure an outcome that meets the needs of all members. I have developed training manuals with key competencies that are designed to not only meet the needs of our supervisors and instructors, but also to ensure that participants are able to meet the key elements in the competencies. The diversity of courses requires expert knowledge the training and associated areas of training implementation. I have developed on behalf of Kenseikan Karate Australia management, a draft course delivery policy as a guide to course co-ordinators and instructors. This policy ensures that Kenseikan Karate Australia policy and procedures are followed whilst training courses are being conducted. This policy will assist Kenseikan Karate Australia staff in their management of courses.
As a Martial Arts service provider, I have successfully marketed and delivered training packages to a diverse range of students at the Street Sense Self-Defense Academy and Kenseikan Karate Australia.
· 3. ABILITY TO DEVELOP PRODUCTIVE WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Throughout my career I have demonstrated sound team and leadership skills. I maintain open communication with all staff, be they senior management, peers or subordinates, to ensure objectives are met and issues are dealt with efficiently and effectively.
As a senior instructor it is crucial that effective working relationships are established in a short period of time. I efficiently and effectively establish sound working relationships with staff, instructors and students, maintaining open communication channels to ensure all objectives are met.
When working as part of a team, I ensure I have a clear understanding of the roles of all members, including myself, and work collaboratively to achieve the end result. When leading a team, I maintain regular meetings to enable a cross flow of information and ideas, adopting a pro-active approach to finding solutions to possible obstacles.
I am aware of and apply principles of conscience in all aspects of my work I consider it a crucial part of training delivery to effectively communicate issues relating to teaching ethics, to ensure participants understand the principles and the importance of applying them in all work and training practices.
· 4. ABILITY TO DEMONSTRATE PERSONAL DRIVE AND INTEGRITY
I have shown commitment in all areas that I have been employed including the Kenseikan Karate Australia code of conduct. I pride myself on my ability to represent myself in a professional and diplomatic manner and ensure I maintain my personal integrity in all aspects of my work.
The success of my business is primarily as a result of my personal drive and dedication to my business. As a trainer, personal drive is crucial to instil motivation and enthusiasm in students and instructors.
· 5. DEMONSTRATE THE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY
I have been actively involved in the training environment for twenty-five years and recognise the importance of effective communication. I have a very high level of oral and written communication skills, which have been vital to my professionalism at the Street Sense Self-Defense Academy and Kenseikan Karate Australia and as a self employed provider of Martial Arts training for over twenty years.
When correspondence has been in the form of written submissions. My presentation skills are of high standard, ensuring information is presented in a factual and concise manner.
I have been commended for my communication skills, both written and oral, on many occasions. I appreciate the importance of good communication at all levels and ensure I effectively communicate with both peers and senior management. I understand the problems associated with poor communication and pride myself on my ability to convey and receive clear, unambiguous information.
As a business consultant, I maintain a high standard of oral communication for securing contracts and maintaining successful client negotiations.
My role as an instructor, lecturer and facilitator for Kenseikan Karate Australia is dependent on strong oral and written communication skills. As a senior instructor the ability to listen effectively and be understood by management, staff, students and instructors is essential to achieve expected outcomes with a positive result.
· 6. ABILITY TO MARKET AND ADVERTISE BUSINESS
I have been advertising for Kenseikan Karate Australia and the Street Sense self-Defense Academy for the past fifteen years. It has become one of the most recognised and influential Martial Arts in Australia. I have also built the Kenseikan Karate Australia internet site into one of the most informative and visited sites for Martial Arts on the internet. We have affiliations to all kinds of Traditional Martial Arts throughout Australia and world wide.
I have also developed a website called Martial Media, where small or battling Martial Arts/Sporting clubs can get exposure on the internet, for a fraction of the cost it is from other internet service providers. I tailor packages to suit all budgets, it is my goal to make as much of the community I can aware of Martial Arts and it’s benefits, and an index of reputable Instructors/Dojo’s available in their area. I also tailor web packages for small businesses.
I am in the process of creating a program called “KickStart for Kids” it is a program where we teach poor & underprivileged children who normally would not be exposed to Martial Arts training and don’t receive the benefit it has to improve a child’s ego.
The self-image, confidence, discipline and control our children develop today, will determine the level of happiness and success they will experience as an adult.
This Martial Arts program will help children to attain:-
Martial Arts training also gives young people something gravely needed in today's society, the strength to say "NO" to negative peer pressure, and to replace the negative, with the positive in thought, word and deed. These students will become leaders, not followers, within their peer groups. It offers the advantages needed in today's fast changing world.
Children today are faced with tough decisions at increasingly younger and more vulnerable ages. The pressure on our kids to use drugs and join gangs progressively increases throughout primary and high school. This program will teach children the skills necessary to make wiser decisions and to resist negative peer pressure. As an added benefit, the students will develop positive self-esteem and self-discipline. These attributes are critical for achieving their desired goals in school and life.
