Kenseikan Karate
Mission Statement
Our system of self-defense was originally developed and refined in Okinawa and Japan. The word Karate is formed from two Japanese words "Kara" meaning empty and "Te" meaning hand, symbolising that the practitioners "Karate-ka" are empty handed or unarmed. They use their hands and feet for blocking and striking and train in an environment based on certain Japanese Traditions and Practices. Our main style of Karate is Shotokan as introduced to Japan from Okinawa in the twentieth century by Master Gichin Funakoshi. We also train in other forms of Martial Arts such as Goju-Ryu, Ju-jutsu, Kick Boxing and Muay Thai
We must remember that our members are interested in self-defense as relevant to them in the real world, not just the Karate world. They want to study under enthusiastic and well-trained instructors, who are able to bring out the best in them as individuals. They want to learn an effective and serious form of self-defense that is also an exacting and demanding traditional Martial Art. All those who wish to compete want to be exposed to fair, intense and challenging competition.
The goal of Kenseikan is to meet these, our members' expectations.
